Marvel Announces Tabletop Role-Playing Game

By admin Dec 18, 2024

Tabletop RPG fans looking for something from the Marvel Universe no longer have to wait, so you can finally put away your Marvel Super Heroes Basic Set from 1991. Launching in March 2022 is the playtest of the Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game.

The upcoming tabletop game will feature plenty of characters from the Marvel Multiverse, allowing players to play as their favorite ones–or create new superheroes entirely. Of course, your heroes will be tasked with fighting some of Marvel’s most infamous supervillains.

The Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game is written and co-designed by Matt Forbeck (Dungeons & Dragons: Endless Quest), and it will use the new D616 System, which is easy to learn for newcomers to this realm of gaming. Whether this is a restamped d20 system or something entirely different–like Fantasy Flight’s overly-complicated Star Wars Roleplaying Game system–is unknown at this time. The Marvel game will use “Might, Agility, Resilience, Vigilance, Ego, and Logic” as its base abilities.

A press release mentions a few characters you can play as in the playtest next March. The full game won’t be available until sometime in 2023.

  • Spider-Man
  • Black Panther
  • Captain America
  • Thor
  • Captain Marvel
  • Ms. Marvel
  • Wolverine
  • Storm

“As a lifelong Marvel fan and gamer, this project is a dream come true,” said Forbeck. “Fortunately, after writing a couple editions of The Marvel Encyclopedia and designing tabletop games professionally for over 30 years, I feel ready to help make this the best Marvel TTRPG experience ever. I can’t wait for everyone to have the chance to play it!”

While we’re still a ways out from the upcoming Marvel tabletop game, Wizards of the Coast and WizKids are still banging out some new material. Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft is a recent sourcebook that recently hit stores, and it adds new horror elements to your games. In my opinion, it is one of the best books in 5e. Additionally, WizKids recently released more Icons of the Realms minis, which allows players to have nature represented on your battlefield–or you can fight a shark.
